How VettedHQ works

Hiring is broken today - this vicious cycle goes something like this:

  • Candidates struggle to get noticed

  • So they are forced to apply for as many jobs as possible

  • They use AI where they can to help broaden the reach and customize resumes to get through ATS filters

  • Therefore, hiring managers see 100s-1000s of applications in days

  • Now it's a needle-in-a-haystack problem

We want to fix this in an AI-assisted, human-augmented way:

  • First, we do detailed onboarding calls with each candidate and each hiring manager in the VettedHQ network; resumes and JDs are not enough for good matching

  • Each onboarding call is led by a VettedHQ PM lead - some that has been in a PM lead / GPM / Director of Product role for 5+ years; who better to have as your recruiter than a fellow PM?

  • As roles get onboarded, VettedHQ sends a high confidence list of vetted candidates to each hiring manager weekly, along with a fit note for each candidate we send

  • Hiring managers accept candidates and candidates receive an email to schedule an interview; we aim for 80%+ acceptance rates with hiring managers

How much of the product is AI vs human powered?
We are in closed beta now and want to build the most frictionless hiring experience for PM candidates and PM hiring managers. To that outcome, we are mechanism-agnostic by design. At this stage, we lean in heavily on VettedHQ PM leads for both onboarding and matching, with AI behind the scenes to enable this.

For Candidates

Can I apply to jobs?
For the closed beta, we plan to do VettedHQ PM-led, AI-assisted matching behind the scenes and send weekly batches of candidates to hiring managers. Given the current size of network, we feel pretty confident that we can match you with the right roles based on what we learn about you through onboarding. We plan to enable applying for jobs proactively in next stages of the product.
What is the onboarding call like? Is it a recruiter screen?
Yes and no. In addition to your LinkedIn profile and resume, we really want to understand you. This includes the kind of product work you have done, types of roles / companies that excite you, and understanding what matters to you in the next role. Think of it more as a conversation with an experienced PM or a PM coach. We don't need you to sell yourself, we just want to understand you better.

For Hiring Managers

What's in it for me? What can you do better than me or my recruiting team?
When hiring for very specific PM roles (like AI / ML, B2B SaaS, Ads / Monetization), it took most hiring managers we talked to anywhere between 4 and 8 months to close the role. That's been my experience the last few roles I have hired for as well (AI / ML and Ads).
VettedHQ can do two things for you:
1. Minimize your needle in a haystack problem - we are curating a haystack for you and VettedHQ-PM-on-the-loop makes sure you only get the most relevant candidates. If we don't 80% acceptance rates on the candidates we send you, we are doing a poor job matching and we'll course correct.
2. You want a reliable stream of candidates without spending hours on it - let's face it, the more specific the role, the harder it is for someone who has not been in the role to source / filter the right candidates. VettedHQ PM leads with 5+ years of PM experience are PM leads like you, who have been in operating product roles and have hired people in the past. It's like cloning yourself to be a sourcer because you don't want to compromise on who you hire.
What's the onboarding call like?
It would be like getting a drink with another PM lead like yourself and riffing about what specifically you're looking for in candidates. Job descriptions are generic and every PM has their own superpower (eg. 0-1, growth hacking, GTM collab, technical complexity). We want to know the context in which you operate, the product area you are hiring for and what personas of PM you're looking for. We do onboarding calls with every candidate in our network, so we are always happy to advise on your sourcing strategy as well.

I've been in and around the world of building products for 10+ years now. I currently lead Ads @ Handshake as a Principal PM in my day job. I previously led Yelp's Applied AI / ML product org + built the company's retargeting Ads product porfolio ground up.
A lot of the frustration and inspiration leading to VettedHQ came from my experiences as a PM hiring manager + having seen many really talented PMs struggle with getting interviews despite being qualified. I'm excited to bring some of these learnings to how we craft the future of hiring.
